Common kitchen appliance problems, explained
When something stops working, the first question is usually “is this serious?” These guides help you decide, safely, and give you the right words for the technician if it is.
Six guides, one pattern
Each guide starts with the quick checks, explains what a technician looks at next, and tells you when to stop and call. For the bigger picture, Austin ApplianceFix lists every appliance we help with.

- Make it safe first.Gas smell, water near electricity or a burning smell comes before any troubleshooting.
- Work the checks in order. They run from free and easy to specialist. Stopping early is fine.
- Write down what you found. The technician’s first questions are about brand, model, symptoms and what you already tried.
- Decide with numbers. If a quote comes back high, our repair-or-replace guide helps.
- A smell of gas near a range, oven or cooktop.
- Sparks, scorched plugs or melted connectors.
- Water pooling near outlets, cords or the breaker panel.
- Cracked glass on a cooktop or oven door.
For gas, leave the home and call 911 from outside.
About these guides
Can I fix these problems myself?
Some, yes: cleaning a filter, resetting a breaker or clearing a burner port are reasonable first steps. Gas, high-voltage and sealed-system work belongs with professionals, and each guide says where the line is.
Are these guides a diagnosis?
No. They help you narrow down likely causes and describe the problem clearly. Only a technician who sees the appliance can diagnose it.
