Boundaries and neighborhood names overlap, so the ZIP code you enter on the request form is what we use to match you with a technician who services your address. These ZIPs cover Downtown, much of East Austin, the University of Texas area, and the older central neighborhoods commonly called Clarksville, Tarrytown, Hyde Park, Brentwood and Rosedale.
Condos and high-rises: the paperwork comes first
Downtown towers and many mid-rise condos run on building rules that have nothing to do with the appliance. Typical requirements, which vary by building, include reserving a freight elevator, limited work hours, a certificate of insurance from the technician, and access through a doorman or property manager. Ask your HOA or building office what they need before the visit and pass that along when you request service; it saves a wasted trip.
Condo kitchens also squeeze appliances: panel-ready dishwashers, built-in refrigerators and over-the-range microwaves that share ducting. When you describe the problem, say whether the appliance is built in, since access and parts can differ from a freestanding unit.
Older central homes: what to expect
Neighborhoods such as Hyde Park, Clarksville and parts of East Austin have homes decades old, often with additions and updated kitchens. Practical consequences for repairs:
- Original gas lines and flexible connectors may be old; a technician may recommend replacing the connector when moving a range.
- Some older homes have limited electrical capacity or outlets that do not match a modern 240-volt range or a new refrigerator’s plug.
- Tight galley kitchens and narrow doors can make pulling out a refrigerator or range a two-person job.
- Vintage ranges and refrigerators are sometimes worth keeping, and a technician can tell you whether parts are still available.
Student and rental housing near campus
If you rent near the University of Texas, your landlord is usually responsible for appliances that came with the unit, and a repair arranged without them can cause confusion. Contact your property manager first. If they ask you to arrange the visit, find a local technician through Austin ApplianceFix and share the unit number and access instructions with the request.
Common requests here
- Refrigerators in small apartments running warm because they are tucked into a tight enclosure — see refrigerator not cooling.
- Dishwashers that stand with water after a disposal install or after a long period unused.
- Microwaves mounted over a range that lose their light, fan or turntable. See microwave repair.
- Gas ranges in older homes with clicking burners or weak oven ignition.
Scheduling notes
Austin’s central streets mean parking and permit restrictions at some addresses. If a technician will need a loading zone or guest permit, mention it. We do not promise arrival windows because they come from the technician’s own schedule; ask for the earliest available and confirm on the call.

Questions people ask
Do technicians work in downtown high-rise buildings?
Independent technicians can service most buildings, but many towers require advance arrangements such as elevator reservations or insurance certificates. Ask your building what is needed before the visit.
Does Austin ApplianceFix repair appliances in rentals?
We connect renters and landlords with independent technicians. If the appliance belongs to the landlord, get their approval first.
Are historic homes harder to service?
They can be, mostly because of access, older wiring and gas connectors. Describe the home and the appliance, and the technician can plan for it.
Can I get a same-day visit in central Austin?
It depends on technician availability. Ask for the earliest appointment; we cannot guarantee same-day service.
